Kirt hired me for my first position as a Sales Representative back in 1988. I was lucky enough to have wonderful colleagues who made learning how to sell cars fun. Kirt quickly established a strong mentorship with me for which I have been truly thankful as it helped position me in the industry.
Kirt intended to become a teacher and started out selling cars in 1985 on a part-time basis to supplement his substitute teacher’s salary by working over the summer. He got trained by a trainer the dealership had hired for a week. Kirt followed what he was taught and asked for feedback from his peers on how to improve when he didn’t get a sale. He found early success in this new career so decided to switch to it full time and became a Manager only after a couple of years.
Back in 1988, Kirt was my first coach, the ideal mentor, and today I’m proud to call him my friend. His teaching background enabled me to understand the importance of following established processes and techniques. After 25 years, we have endured a wonderful relationship. To me, his story is influential and proves that you really can take a Detour to Success.
